HIV/AIDS Awareness in Gampaha District

9 August 2007

NCEASL conducted an HIV/AIDS Awareness Seminar for 60 families at a family camp organized by the Calvary Church in Kadawatha, 126 Christians, including teenagers and young adults participated.

One of our aims is to include the HIV/AIDS awareness theme into the agendas of the Sri Lankan churches.  We were greatly overjoyed when we were given the opportunity to address as many as 126 participants at this family Camp. It was a new experience for us to discuss issues relating to HIV/AIDS with young people and their parents.

“I learned a lot of thing relating to HIV/AIDS from this seminar. It is very useful in making people aware on this deadly virus.” said a young girl.

Two Pastors agreed to conduct awareness seminars in their churches and the participants agreed to inform their friends and family members on HIV/AIDS and STDs.

“This HIV/AIDS programme was well done. This kind of awareness programmes can help prevent people from being infected with the HIV/AIDS virus. We learned today that this is a serious issue. As Christians we should care for people living with HIV/AIDS and we should also pray for them.” said a young boy.
