Launch of Report 'Rights at the Crossroads: A Legal Analysis of Religious Attacks in Sri Lanka'

On the 14th of May 2026, the Religious Liberty Commission of the NCEASL launched the report 'Rights at the Crossroads: A Legal Analysis of Religious Attacks in Sri Lanka (November 2024 to October 2025)'. The report legally analyses religiously motivated incidents against religious minorities documented by NCEASL between November 2024 and October 2025, focusing on the legal implications, rights violations, and potential legal outcomes.
The launch event was attended by around 70 participants. Among them were civil society members, members of the diplomatic community and religious leaders. The speakers at the report launch event included Dr. Gehan Gunatilake, Commissioner, Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka; Ameer Faaiz, Attorney-at-Law; Joy Jegarthan, Social Media Specialist, Hashtag Generation; and Salome de Silva, Sectional Head - Legal and Research, NCEASL. The report, commissioned by the NCEASL, was co-authored by Attorneys-at-Law Malsirini de Silva and Avishka Jayaweera, who also spoke at the event.
